Bits of Trivia and odd facts

How do you get Lynn and Cheryl Teuscher out to AZ in 100+ heat?

To see the thousands of saguaro cacti in bloom? No, Brian needed to be ordained a High Priest and asked his Dad to perform the ordination.

How secretive is the San Tan Stake Presidency?

Very. They realigned three wards and made a fourth ward a month ago. Brian was called as the 1st counselor in the new ward, Meadowview 2nd. The attempt to leave the building after the call was issued was like an FBI undertaking. There were 2 or 3 people on cell phones, closing doors, checking hallways just to make sure this new bishopric was not seen leaving the building together! It was pretty funny.

Who is Muh-zone-ee?

In Zach-speak, which is generally quite intelligible these days, this word can only be understood when looking at pictures. And more specifically pictures of temples. We finally realized this was his interpretation of 'Moroni'

What are 'little pants'?

Shorts of course. This makes perfect sense to a two year old- big pants have more fabric, and little pants don't have has much!

What do the letters T, Y, I have in common?

Brandon has been diving this summer with two of his friends and these letters represent the arm positions you go through before jumping. He came home and taught everyone, so we have had many chants of T Y circle I throughout the house.

How many weeks have we been homebound?

Two. We have had the flu and it has been passed around!!! It is one of these lingering bugs which goes on for days. Maybe someday soon we will enjoy this summer. I don't love being out in the heat, but knowing we can't go out, makes it hard. We are getting pretty stir crazy around here.

Why aren't freeways free?

Andrew wants to know why freeways aren't free to drive anyway you want on them. Last night we were driving home on the freeway he didn't think it was fair that police could stop people on a freeway- well then why are they called FREEways he wondered, FREE means you can do anything you want. Interesting thought process. He's not driving a car that's for sure!

Kindergarten Graduation

Mrs. McKinney, Andrew, Mrs. Lynne
Andrew received the Music Award for his class.
I'm not a fan of these graduations. I really don't know why they do this. But, since we are supportive parents we attend.
Now, all you blood Teuschers, are probably seeing a bit of an oxymoron here.... Teuscher +Music + Award all in the same sentence and most likely scratching your head. Don't worry Brian was doing the same thing sitting in the audience!
Andrew had a fun time in Kindergarten and loved his teacher Mrs. McKinney.
Now time for summer.....

We've waited ten years for this....

A tooth.

Yes, a tooth.

Each of the kids has been born with something different or missing. Brandon's claim to fame is that he was born with out a lateral incisor( baby or permanent) on the right side and only a baby one on the left. The orthodontist has attempted over the last six months to create a space big enough to put a tooth in.....

...and he did! A full toothy smile.

It is just a fake tooth that has a bracket on and is wired to the wire across his brackets. When he is finished with braces he will get a retainer with a tooth on it, and then in his twenties, once his jaw has stopped growing, they will do an implant. But it is fun to see him smile!

Arrow of Light

Brandon earned his Arrow of Light the end of May with a few of the other Webelos from his Den. The leaders organized having Order of the Arrow come and do the ceremony, which was very nice, and helped make it even more special. Way to go Brandon!

Baseball

Baseball is Brian's true love of sports. But as a mom, with three boys playing, sometimes it was hard to feel the love. Unlike soccer, with one game a week, baseball can have two or three games a week--multiply that by three kids and you get a mom who learned how to pack and make dinner from a cooler like no other. The hours from the time they got home from school until we made it to the fields were a whirlwind and a little nutty. By game time we enjoyed sitting in the fields and soaking in the fabulous spring weather we had. (It was an extremely mild spring thanks to El Nino- wish it would be this way every year.)

By the last few games, we had to pull out the canopy for the Sat. afternoon games.

Andrew and the seeds. What is baseball without seeds? We couldn't forget the backpack with the seeds in it- that would have been a disaster!

Brandon leading off from first. He had a wonderful coach this year, making up from last year, mild mannered and extremely positive.

Zach trying to get the whole dog in- practicing for the Hot Dog Eating Championships in twenty years.
Getting a few minute last minute reminders from dad. This kid could crush the ball. He had to play T-ball this year, because it was his first year. His skills were way beyond t-ball so it was more of a lets-get-out-and-have-fun year than learning anything new.

The strong as an ox coment from a previous post, fits well for Matthew in hitting- when he made solid contact he would make it to second base...on the opposite field. He would never swing at the first pitch, he would always see how the coach was pitching that particular inning before comitting to hit one!

This cute kid won the Home Run Derby at the end of the season!

Brandon got an in the park home run this year- though he found when he wore his glasses he could hit more consistantly!

Matthew

Matthew was chosen as Student of the Month in March. His teacher had this to say about him: Matthew is always on task and etremely respectful. He is courteous to all those around him. Matthew is always willing to participate, and share interesting facts with our class. He is a joy to have in the classroom.

On a side note: we are just pleased they spelled his name right. His first name that is.
We all know Teuscher is a bear to spell and pronounce, because I have seen far too many spellings and laughed at too many attempted pronunciations, but the name Matthew? Last year on his SOM certificate the spelling was Mathew. So this year a success- both names spelled correctly.

Matthew is a great kid. And unfortunately he is the (oldest) middle child. He is a peacemaker and often gets the short end of the stick. His feathers don't get ruffled very often or very easily. He is always the one who moves places in church so whoever is having a rough time can sit by me. He doesn't complain about much, not even having to wear dirty pants again, or having to eat a jelly sandwich for lunch. He is smart- and retains tiny bits of trivia, generally numbers- like no one I've met. We all know Brian is smart with numbers and ridiculous minutia of trivia, so he is his fathers son. Matthew can tell you the hospital room number I was in when Zach was born. Or how many poles he passed on a ski lift, a year later. The street number of BFCS ( and this is when he wasn't even in school, and it is a five or six digit number)He just gets numbers. His athletic abilities will come in the form of endurance, he is strong as on ox and just keeps going and going. He loves to read in bed- hidden on the top bunk, hidden from view, but catching enough light from the hall to read well into the night.

Skiing

In February we took a long weekend up to Sunrise- the other ski resort in AZ. Yes, imagine that there are ski resorts here! But only two, so there's really not much of a choice. The boys enjoyed these slopes much more, but as for Zach, he wasn't going to have a thing to do with the snow this day. As evidenced by the following pictures, he and I spent the day in the lodge. (It wasn't worth the drive back and forth to the hotel) What else are you going to do but take pictures of your two year old? So I snapped away.

He never made it out of his pajamas, but so is the life of a two year old. We did find a few good hills to sled on, though it was fairly icy and quite windy. But a hills a hill and a sleds a sled and a boy a boy- so off they went.

Nothing like watching the Olympics and having pizza after a long day on the slopes!
