February 2012

The temple walls starting to be put up. When the first pieces of wall were being placed it took quite some time--we thought it would take a very long time to get them all up. After talking with the service missionaries one day, they said it took the installers a long time for the first ones becuase they were learning how to do it. We noticed that the pieces started going up faster and faster as time passed.

The wall pieces are cast in Texas and then shipped here. Some days there are five to ten flatbeds lined up with the wall pieces.

We have been walking twice a week at Discovery Park right across the street from the temple...getting ready for Trek in June. Zachary is always facinated with what is happening on the temple.

At Kids Rock in January someone handed us a flyer for a kids Spartan Race. We decided to give it a go... they had an ok time, but didn't love it enough to want to do it again. The course wasn't long enough for them and they wanted more difficult obstacles.

Muddy Boys.

Brandon, Matthew, Andrew, Zachary ( who managed to snag a medal somehow) Audrey, Korbin and Kate. They did think the rigged up showers were pretty interesting, but didn't like having to stand in line and shower in their muddy clothes.

Brandon's submission to the sixth grade histroy fair. The Temple of Zeus made from salt dough.  I was grateful that this was not a project which was not procrastinated-- the salt dough took forever to dry.

By the end of February the steel structure for the steeple was built.

Zachary loves to go to the visitors center and just watch..so I had to limit it to Thursday's after our walks we could stop.

One evening we met the Johnson's at Lost Dutchman for a BBQ. They had hiked up the canyon in the right of this photo- Matthew had tagged along with them on the hike. I loved the the sunset on the Superstition Mountains.

Andrew is sitting on his throne of rocks- why we didn't bring enough chairs I can't remember.

The downstairs bedroom getting transformed into a real office for Brian.

The ensuing mess...at least this was one of the fastest and easiest projects we have tackled.

Andrew and Brandon got the camera on a sunday morning... I've always wondered why it takes them so long to get dressed on sunday. Now I have a slight glimpse...

Brandon and Zachary in the Orchestra room before the school orchestra/band conert.

Korbin and Matthew.

Brian had flown to Texas for some meetings and was getting home during the concert so we could meet with President Riggs later on. I don't remember much of the concert... the ensuing hours were quite humbling and life changing. Not much sleep was had that night and the coming weeks.  Brian was called as Bishop of the Meadowview 2nd ward. Donny Taylor the other counselor with Brian to Bishop Sedillo was called as the Bishop of the Coronado 2nd ward. With these changes the boundaries of these two wards were changed as well. We lost a small section, but it was dense with memebers. Brian was left with the YM president and the executive secretary. The remaining auxilliary presidents and clerks were all in this section, which was moving to COR2. The two weeks before Brian was sustained were a blur, kind of a numb blur. I purposely stayed home and kindof hibernated..I didn't really want to see anyone, because I didn't want to have to answer the questions I knew were going to come out of their mouths. Rumors had been rampant for a few months because everyone knew Bishop Sedillo was at his five year mark...they escalated to a firey inferno once the Stake announced a "special meeting" the  first Sunday in March. We've been through these special meeitngs about every two years...most often with ward boundary changes. Since we moved here in 2005 we have been in 5 or 6, I've lost count!

January 2012

The cheering section!

Heading to the finish line- 26.2 miles under his belt.

Cracking up once he heard us cheering

We recruited a few more friends this year- it made training much more fun! At the end of the training each of the boys went sub 10 minutes- i was so impressed with their efforts.

Pinewood Deby- Matthew's entrent this year...The

Going through the spreadsheet one last time- hours are spent finalizing this- his perfectionic tendencies coming through! Perhaps he is trying to pass this off to Brandon??

Brandon ran cross country for Ben Franklin this winter- Cross Country is the one sport they allow the 6th graders to participate in. The first week of practice in November  he fell and broke the top of his radius-- by January he was back running.

Happy Birthday Brian! It was one of those days...birthday had to be scrunched into breakfast.
